Sigma fp l first impressions8/27/2023 The Fp-L has a sensor designed to please the landscape photography crowd. Yet the Fp-L is $2499 which considering the 9.5K sensor, you’d have to be very spoilt indeed to say that’s too expensive. That’s higher resolution than most medium format cameras. There are not many 61 megapixel full frame cameras on the market. It doesn’t have a Sony A7 series style grip because it is meant to be added by you and tailored to your style. Immediately Chris talks about it slipping out of the hand if he has a big heavy lens attached, there’s no mention at all about the modular grips! Talk about seeing problems where they don’t exist. In Chris and Jordan’s DPReview video about the Fp-L – it as if the concept of modularity is completely lost on them. Can I change the grip on my Sony A7S III to suite my shoot or personal preferences? Nope. The modular concept of the Fp-L is brilliant. It has no cabling or separate battery like the $2000 Zacuto Gratical. It has more features than the one that comes with the $10K GFX 100. ![]() This is the most capable EVF attachment available on the market for any mirrorless camera. Let’s start with that new articulated EVF. In the case of Gerald, I don’t think he gave Sigma a fair crack of the whip in at all. In what’s a common theme the original Fp and now the Fp-L, I don’t think many of the social media glitterati get this camera. On social media slick ninja-like assassins strike again in the middle of the night, and the unfortunate victim always seems to be the Sigma Fp series. The EVF-11, as it is officially known, will be sold on its own for $699, and is compatible with the original fp.In the YouTube comments “this was the smoothest bloodbath in a while”. The Sigma fp L will be available in mid-April for $2499 body-only, or $2999 with the EVF. High speed FullHD recording at up to 120 fps is supported, though with a crop. It can also output a Raw video feed over HDMI that can be encoded as ProRes RAW or Blackmagic RAW, depending on what type of recorder you attach. The fp L can capture UHD 4K 30p video internally and can output 12-bit Cinema DNG Raw to an external SSD. Due to its size, the fp L only has an electronic shutter, which results in a 1/15 sec flash sync speed and the possibility of rolling shutter. It's also sealed against dust and moisture. ![]() The fp L is the smallest camera in its class at 113 x 70 x 45mm (4.4 x 2.8 x 1.8") and weighs just 427g (13.2oz) with battery and memory card installed. Otherwise, little has changed compared to the original fp. ![]() One quirk of its design is that there is no automatic eye sensor: you have to use a button to manually toggle between the LCD and EVF. The electronic viewfinder has 3.68 million dots and a large magnification of 0.83x, and can be tilted upwards. The EVF adds a headphone socket (something not offered on the body of the camera). It uses the USB and HDMI ports on that side of the camera, with the USB port offering a pass-through (HDMI does not). There's also an optional new electronic viewfinder that screws onto the side of the camera. This new model adds a 61 Megapixel full-frame sensor (almost certainly based on the sensor used in the Sony a7R IV), a hybrid autofocus system, true 24p video capture and support for USB Power Delivery. Sigma has announced a high-resolution version of its ultra-compact, full-frame fp, known as the fp L.
